Robert Budina’s film “Waterdrop” will be showcased at the Euro Balkan Film Festival on October 30 at 9:00 PM at Casa del Cinema in Rome.
“Waterdrop” tells the story of Aida (played by Gresa Pallaska), a tough businesswoman and city planner in an Albanian town on the shores of Lake Ohrid, responsible for the allocation of EU subsidies. While Aida survives in a patriarchal world by occasionally accepting bribes, her comfortable life shatters when her teenage son, Mark, gets accused of sexual assault by a classmate. Convinced of his innocence, Aida embarks on her own investigation but faces a wall of silence, envy, and deep-rooted prejudice.
Director Robert Budina shared that the film was inspired by a news story about a similar incident in an Albanian town that was ignored by local authorities. As he states:
“I wanted to make a film about a mother who wants to know the truth about her rapist son, even though his crime mirrors the way she has built her life.”
This courageous film tackles themes of pain, injustice, and social consequences, capturing the attention of audiences and critics worldwide at various international festivals.
